SIBU: Sibu wushu exponents collected 29 gold, 19 silver and 9 bronze medals at last weekend’s Sarawak Inter-Division Wushu, Dragon and Lion Dance Championship held in Miri.
They finished as runner-up behind champion Miri.
Sibu Martial Arts (Quanshu) Association (SMAA) coach Frankie Hii, who was leading a team for a state championship for the first time, expressed satisfaction with his athletes.
“Most of them are young players and their ability to return with the second placing was a good achievement,” he said.
“With the experience richly gained from the exposure, this will be a good starting point for many of the participants who were the first timers in the championship.”
In the Dragon and Lion Dance category, Sibu Guong Ming Middle School won the overall title, followed by SMAA in second spot and Miri third.
Competitors from Kuching, Betong, Sibu, Brunei and host Miri took part in the championship.
