LIMBANG: A teenager from Rumah Apeng in Batu Riau Lubai, near here, reported missing while bathing in Lubai River yesterday afternoon has not been found as at press-time (6.30pm) yesterday.

Fire and Rescue Department’s Assistant Superintendent Azman Ibrahim said the teenager, Alexder Albertini Daud, 16, was believed to have drowned and swept away by strong currents while bathing in the river at 1.58pm.

“Eight personnel including myself with assistance from about 20 villagers have searched about 2km of the river. However, as of 6.30pm there was no sign of the missing boy. We will resume the SAR operation at 7am tomorrow (today),” Azman said when contacted yesterday.

He said they stopped the operation at 6.30pm due to fading light but their men and the villagers were still stationed at the site near the bridge where the victim and his friends were said to have jumped into the river.

Bomba Senior Officer II Zakaria Matnor was also involved in the SAR operation.
