KUCHING: With 2016 drawing to an end, four youths are sharing their New Year’s resolutions for 2017 with The Borneo Post.

Sales and marketing manager Rochesder Hillary, 30, hopes to break her bad habits – drinking and smoking to improve her health.

She said she drank every night and would also smoke when she drank, thus hoped to kick the bad habits.

“How bad is my drinking … I have my own beer stock in my room and I can easily finish two crates on my own,” she said when met at her workplace near the Kuching Waterfront yesterday.

She also wanted to try something more challenging like going to the gym more frequently, to practise her muay thai (boxing), like her friend Rebecca who also takes up the sport.

She currently goes to the gym five times a month and wants to train more frequently next year.

Corporate consultant and muay thai fighter, Khairul Akmal Khan Khalid Khan, 27, hopes to live healthier, be fitter, generate more income and win more fights.

“This year I fought three fights. I won two and lost one. I target to fight five fights and win all of them. As such, I need to live healthier because it will greatly improve my health and stamina, and boost my performance in fights.”

He added that being healthy and having a healthy body would make the brain more active and quick thinking which would come in handy during fights.

Fresh graduate, Priscilla Tawie, 22, hopes to start her career path next year.

“This year (2016) has been a blast and I ended it by surviving and graduating college. Next year (2017) would be the beginning of my career path or a mid run in life. I wouldn’t be greedy and ask for the impossible – that is to lose weight.”

“That said, I hope I can have lots more food to ‘experience’ in the coming year.”

She said her most cliché resolution would be to become a better person, open a new chapter and finish it with great success and achievements.

Meanwhile, operations manager for sales and marketing, Ronald Lim, 32, hopes to spend more time with his family, travel to new places even if they are just in Malaysia, and double his income.

He said being in the food and beverage industry meant his working hours were long and busy.

“My son is turning three soon, and children grow up so fast. That is why I want to spend more time as his childhood is precious and short. I would love to take time off and bring my family travelling as it is my passion. I want to go to the Grand Alexis in Pork Dickson because it is a beautiful cluster of chalets shaped like a hibiscus (flower),” he said.

He also plans to double his income through investment, by becoming a business partner in the food industry.
