KUCHING: The Sarawak Sports Corporation will use Sarawak Games (Suksa) as a platform to unearth more potential athletes to carry the state’s challenge in Sukma XIX in Perak in 2018.

Its chief executive officer Dr Ong Kong Swee said the working paper on the organising of the second edition of the Games would be discussed in a meeting next week.

“If agreed and approved, this will be the second time that Sarawak will be organising Suksa before becoming three-time consecutive Sukma overall champions in 1990, 1992 and 1994,” he said during a briefing on the Year Plan 2017 with various sports associations at Stadium Negeri, Petra Jaya on Thursday.

Ong said eight optional sports archery, shooting, aquatics, karate, weightlifting, athletics, sepak takraw, cycling and golf have been proposed for Suksa.

The Games expected to be held in November will involve Southern Zone, Central Zone and Northern Zone where 3,000 athletes from all over Sarawak will be taking part.

“The competition for the physically challenged people (OKU) during Suksa 2017 has also been proposed,” said Ong.

Saying that the Year Plan 2017 will also be discussed in next week’s meeting, Ong reminded all sports associations to be more committed to ensure that Sarawak win the 19th Sukma in Perak.

Also present at the briefing was Tupong state assemblyman Fazzrudin Abdul  Rahman who represented Persatuan  Rumpun Silat Sarawak.
