KUCHING: Players who have represented Sarawak Sports School SMK Tabuan Jaya in the KPM League will form the backbone of the Sarawak Youth Cup squad for the 2017 season.

Head coach Safri Amit said 19 players from the school have been called up to strengthen the junior Crocs.

The selection process for the state junior squad is expected to end on Jan 2.

“Our selection is based on those who have played in the KPM League, Youth Cup and the Sarawak U19 Youth Cup this year,” he said when met after a training session at Padang C, Sarawak Stadium Complex recently.

“The good news is that we have managed to recall three players who have played for Malacca, Pahang and Police,” he added.

According to Safri, five players were retained from last year’s squad.

He said the final list of the players will be known very soon with some pre-season friendly matches expected in Kuala Lumpur at the end of January.

“I believe that the mixture of young and old faces will compose a strong squad for the challenge next season,” he said.

The new Youth Cup campaign will kick off on Feb 10.
