LUNDU: After a long hiatus, Lundu has finally revived its district football league which started on Nov 19.

Sixteen men and four women’s teams competed in the Lundu District Closed Football League jointly organised by Saberkas Tanjong Datu, Lundu District Office and the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Solidarity at Lundu Mini Stadium.

“We are trying to unearth new talents and form a football team from this district to one day compete in the Sarawak League,” Saberkas Tanjong Datu chairman Ramdan Mahri said. Organising chairman Borhan Saidi hoped that the district could eventually lift the coveted YAB Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem Trophy and Datin Patinggi Puan Sri Datuk Amar Jamilah Anu Trophy.

On Saturday, PL FC faced Slow & Steady in the women’s final while Felcra FC and Rambungan Bakti FC vied for the men’s title.

Cash prizes stood at RM1,000 and RM500 for the women’s champion and runner-up.

The top two men’s teams woul receive RM2,000 and RM1,500.

Present at the finals was Saribas assemblyman Razi Sitam.
