KUCHING: Sarawak head coach David Usop believes that a team made up of mostly Sarawakians will not only win the hearts of fans but win matches as well.

For local fans yearning to see more Sarawakians play for the state team, he said they will get to see such a team in Super League this year.

Speaking to The Borneo Post yesterday, he added that the Crocs will comprise “80 to 90 per cent Sarawakian players.”

David, however, insisted that the presence of import players, especially those from other countries, remains important for the team.

They are expected to provide the much needed experience to guide the team.

“As far as I am concerned, import players (from other countries) are here to provide the much needed experience. I believe that the fans would understand why we need to have them playing for the team too,” he stressed.

The team will still have local import players (those from other states).

While the team roster will be mostly Sarawakians, Sabahan Ronny Harun is expected to continue wearing the captain’s armband this season.

He is held up as a shining example of a player whom local fans accept as a non-Sarawakian who plays his heart out for his adoptive state.

The Super League is due to kick off on Jan 21 with the Crocs scheduled to play away against T-team.
