KAPIT:It was a hectic scene at the express boat terminal here yesterday, despite the day being a replacement holiday for Christmas Day which fell on Sunday.

The majority of the people thronging the terminal comprised parents and their children, who were preparing for the trip back to school.

Many of the children here are studying at boarding schools away from their home communities here and at villages along the Rajang River.

With the new school term for this year commencing today, the parents strive to make sure that their children would be on time for registration and collection of textbooks as well as other arrangements.

A survey by The Borneo Post yesterday showed wharf workers busy helping the passengers load their goods on board the express boats and also the long boats, which the operators had hundreds on standby at the terminal.

Those working outside this district were also seen among the huge crowd of passengers.

For this town and also those in the upper Rajang, the rivers remain their main mode of transportation due to the lack of road connectivity.

Meanwhile, all schools in town conducted the registration of students and the distribution of textbooks yesterday, like SMK Kapit which had been running this since early morning.

At SK Methodist, a meeting for the teachers and school staff members was held late afternoon after the registration and other arrangements for the students were done.
