KUCHING: An Indonesian man charged with trafficking 3.13kg of methamphetamine was asked to enter his defence at the High Court on Feb 3.

Justice Ismail Brahim set the date for the trial of Wahyudin’s defence call after he ruled that there was prima facie case against the accused.

At the end of the prosecution case last month, the judge ruled that there was a prima facie case, read under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, that provides for a mandatory death sentence upon conviction.

Wahyudin was charged with committing the offence at a hotel room in Jalan Tun Jugah around 3pm on Nov 6.

Wahyudin arrived here with his cousin Eva Sylviana, who also faced the same charge.

They were charged and tried separately but Eva had been convicted after she was found guilty of trafficking 6.61kg of the same drug at the High Court here last month.

The drug was seized from her upon arrival at Kuching International Airport on the same date. The drug was found inside wedges heel in her luggage.

Both of them came from Hong Kong with transit at Kuala Lumpur before arriving here.

Despite the same travel itinerary, they arrived from separate flights.
