SIBU: Sarawak Sports Council director Dr Ong Kong Swee has assured badminton lovers that there will be sufficient tickets on sale for the six-day Victor Far East Malaysia Masters 2017 to be held at Sibu Indoor Stadium from Jan 17-22.

Four ticketing agents in Sibu have been appointed.

They are World Sports Equipment Sdn Bhd (0168862255), TH Sports (0138066699), Thumb’s Up Badminton Academy (0198291868) and Pro Wira Badminton (0128862627).

“This event is Sarawak’s pride and, hopefully, the local people including those from Sarikei, Bintangor and Kapit will turn up in full force to watch the matches,” Dr Ong told a press conference here yesterday afternoon.

Also present were Sibu Resident Hii Chang Kee, Badminton Association of Malaysia general manager Lawrence Chiew, Sarawak Badminton Association secretary Abdul Hadi Abdul Kadir and Sibu Badminton Association secretary Yong King Soon.

Dr Ong also reminded members of the public that entry to watch the early rounds on Jan 17 and 18 is free of charge.

Tickets will be sold for the preliminary rounds on Jan 19 at RM15 per person and RM7 for children.

For the quarter-finals and semi-finals on Jan 20 and 21, tickets are priced at RM25 and RM12 for children.

Tickets for the final on Jan 22 will be RM35 and RM17 for children.

Season tickets are also available at RM80 for adults.

Ong said Sibu was chosen as the venue because of the new RM35 million badminton stadium which was the venue of the 18th Sukma badminton competition.

Meanwhile, Hii noted that the competition falls very near to the Chinese New Year on Jan 28.

“Many people working outstation coming back to celebrate the Chinese New Year can return early to watch the Malaysia Masters which promises lots of thrills and spills,” he said.

Hii added that billboard and fishtails will be up in Sibu town to promote the event.
