DEBAK: The Betong Civil Defence Force (APM) managed to catch a seven-foot long crocodile weighing 30kg which was trapped inside a duck cage at Kampung Hilir Melayu Dit yesterday.

The reptile had managed to devour a duck.

Betong APM head of operation Sgt Hasla Deli said the cage was not far from a river.

“We received a call at 10.45am. The caller said they needed help to catch a trapped crocodile. Three other officers and I rushed to the scene. Upon arrival, we noticed the reptile acting aggressively and putting up a struggle. Earlier on, the duck’s owner had hit it to weaken it,” he said.

He said even though he was familiar with crocodile-catching techniques, the safety of the officers was prioritised.
