KUCHING: The School of Skateboarding has received a ‘pat on the back’ for its initiative to revive skateboarding by organising a competition in the compound of the Old Court House at Kuching Waterfront last Saturday.

The praise comes from Tupong state assemblyman Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman who said the competition was a good start to revive the popularity of the sport again as it was a craze among youngsters at one time.

“I hope the competition like this will be continued in time to come for our youths.

“I am also ready to support the organiser to organise the activity in future,” he said in a text of speech which was shown on a projector screen during the prize presentation ceremony at the Old Court House canteen last Saturday.

CISKA president Farouk Paul Mahmud said the primary mission of the club was to become the main propagator in ensuring that boardskating becomes a highly skilled professional sport here.

“Our vision is to make Sarawak a centre which produces many young skateboarders with great skills to represent the country in international competitions and especially to qualify for the Japan Olympic Games in 2020,” said Farouk.

Meanwhile, seasoned campaigner Gavin Jorden Nuek of Spoil Devil won the Skater of the Year 2016 award while the SOS/Homer Best Video 2016 award went to Arman Mustafa of Gappy sk8.

The SOS/Homer Rookie of the Year was won by Muhammad Rafi’uddin Azizan and the Best Trick Hydrant winner was Alias.

Danish Farhan bagged the Best trick Stairs award.

Event organiser Zulkarnien Poasa conveyed his greatest appreciation to Fazzrudin, CISKA, SJN Forwarding, Bariq Services, China House, Syarikat Alwi, Philiosophy Ory Skateboard, Sk8saok and Flow Skate Build for their sponsorships.
