KUALA LUMPUR: A man was killed and another injured, crushed by the iron portion of the hydraulic-powered garbage lorry compressor weighing about half a tonne at the landfill in Bukit Tagar, Kuala Kubu Baru, near here today.
Hulu Selangor district police chief Supt R.Supramaniam said the victim S. Nagaraja, 49, died on the spot while his friend S. Nagaraju, 39, who was seriously injured was rushed to the Sungai Buloh Hospital.
According to him, in the 7.30am incident, the two victims were washing the remnants of the garbage at the rear of the lorry before being crushed by the equipment.
“The iron pole of the compressor operating on hydraulic power is said to have broken and dislodged and crushed the victim and his friend,” he said in a statement.
The case has been classified as sudden death, but police are continuing investigations to identify whether it has to do with negligence, said Supramaniam. – Bernama
