MIRI: The closing date for submission of the photography contest titled ‘Beautiful Telang Usan’ has been extended to Feb 15 this year.

The competition is co-organised by Telang Usan Constituency Service Centre and Miri Photographic Society.

Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau said the closing date for submission of entries for the contest which started on Nov 7 last year was initially on Saturday (Jan 7 this year).

“We have received a lot of requests from those interested to extend the closing date for the contest entry submission.

“After discussing with the organising committee, we decided to extend the closing date to Feb 15 in order to allow more participants to join this contest which offers attractive cash prizes to the winners,” he told a press conference at Dynasty Hotel yesterday.

To date, Dennis said, the organising committee has received about 32 entries for the competition which is divided into two categories — DSLR or Mirrorless Camera category and Handphone category.

“This competition is open to all and the pictures that they submit must either be on landscape/nature or human interest which they captured in Telang constituency only.

“Telang Usan state constituency is within the Baram parliamentary constituency and it starts from Logan Sibong, Lower Baram up to Long Palai, from Long Batan in middle Tinjar to the upper Tinjar (Ulu Tinjar), from Long Bemang at lower Apoh region to Long Bedian and all Penan settlements in Sungai Layun, Ulu Sungai Apoh, Sungai Patah, Sungai Akah and Long Tap Long Senaia.”

He hopes that the competition will further promote his constituency as a tourism attraction through natural scenery, culture and arts.

On the prizes, he said the champion in each category will receive RM2,500 cash, while first and second runners-up will each receive RM1,500 and RM1,000 respectively.

There are also 10 consolation prizes of RM100 and a certificate to those placed fourth until 13th in each category.
