KUCHING: A driver and a passenger were killed in a head-on collision between two vehicles at 12th Mile Kuching-Serian Road here last Saturday evening.
The van driver, identified as Allan Chung Loong Fuat, 41, died on the spot while his passenger, identified as Anslem Adriano Wilson, 15, was later pronounced dead at the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).
Both the deceased were headed for Kuching in the van which collided with an oncoming truck.
The driver of the truck sustained serious injuries as a result of the collision while a motorcyclist who was riding behind the truck fell on the road and was also severely injured.
The motorcyclist was reportedly unable to avoid the collision that happened around 7pm.
The injured persons had been sent to SGH for medical attention.
Padawan district police chief Supt Aidil Bolhassan confirmed this case yesterday.
Based on initial investigation, the police believed that the collision could have occurred due to an overtaking attempt by the van.
This incident is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
