KOTA KINABALU: The Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) collected RM3.4 million in compounds last year, compared with RM4.1 million in 2015, its mayor, Datuk Yeo Boon Hai said.

He attributed the drop in collection to more focus given by DBKK to prosecuting the offenders.

As such, in 2016, a total of 2,221 motorists were charged in court for parking offences, compared with only 1,114 people the previous year, he said in his speech at the DBKK’s assembly with the mayor and wearing of the department rank for enforcement officers here yesterday.

He said stricter action was also taken against city folks under the anti-litter by-laws last year, which saw a total of 188 investigation papers opened.

Out of that, 161 offenders were charged in court, he added. — Bernama
