Two years’ jail for keeping stolen motorcycle

KUCHING: A jobless man was sentenced to two years in prison in the magistrates’ court here yesterday for retaining a stolen motorcycle.

Noor Halifah Jonian, 30, from Taman Malihah appeared before Magistrate Zulhairil Sulaiman who ordered his custodial sentence to take effect immediately after the sentencing.

Noor Halifah was convicted under Section 411 of the Penal Code on his own guilty plea.

He admitted to retaining the vehicle when detained by a team of police at his house on Dec 26 last year at 4.40pm.

In the same court room, another man claimed trial to a motorcycle theft charge.

Mohd Zulfikar Sulong, 29, was accused of stealing the vehicle at 3.45pm on Nov 10 last year at Sungai Siol bridge in Petra Jaya near here.

He is facing a charge under Section 379 of the Penal Code, a section that carries an imprisonment term of up to seven years and/or a fine or whipping upon conviction.

The court released him on RM2,000 cash bail in one surety pending the disposal of the case. Pre-trial case management was set for Jan 26.

Inspector Hisyam Junaidi prosecuted both cases.
