Adenan’s body arrives at Petra Jaya State Mosque before burial

KUCHING: The body of the late Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem has arrived at the Petra Jaya State Mosque, also known as Masjid Jamek, where it will lie in state until after the Zohor prayers.

The funeral cortege arrived at approximately 11.30am, accompanied by Adenan’s widow Datin Patinggi Datuk Amar Jamilah Anu, his family members and various other dignitaries.

Members of the public have been waiting since early this morning to pay their last respects to Adenan, widely regarded as a chief minister who brought positive change to the state with his larger-than-life personality and no-nonsense approach to defending the state’s rights.

Traffic around the mosque was already thick by 10am.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, who was accompanied by several state leaders, arrived at the mosque at 12.10pm to pay his last respects to Adenan.

Fifteen minutes later, Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud also made his way inside the mosque to pay last respects to Adenan.

At 12.30pm, Sultan of Brunei Hassanal Bolkiah also arrived at the mosque to pay his last respects.

Among the dignitaries who paid their last respects to Adenan were Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai and Chief Minister of Penang Lim Guan Eng.

Adenan will be buried at Samariang Muslim Cemetery after the Zohor prayers at about 1.30pm.
