KAPIT: A village headman, Tuai Rumah Beraoh, from Nanga Senuang, Batang Rajang about 30 minutes’ boat ride from Kapit town passed away after he suddenly collapsed while walking up the Kapit Express Boat Terminal yesterday.

The incident happened about 9am as he was embarking from an express boat that arrived from Sibu.

He was accompanied by his wife at the time of the incident.

It is said that his wife shouted for help when he suddenly collapsed.

Members of the public including officers from Sarawak Rivers Board who came to his aid then carried him to a private vehicle while waiting for an ambulance to arrive.

Several minutes later, an ambulance with several medical officers arrived at the scene and immediately performed CPR on the longhouse chief. He was later rushed to Kapit Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

It is not immediately known what caused his sudden death. Family members said he had been suffering a heart ailment.
