KUCHING: Rotary Club of Kuching Central (RCKC) will be holding a Charity Run on Feb 26 to raise funds to supplement their numerous projects to be undertaken this year.

RCKC has been active in assisting the less fortunate in the society and carrying out targetted youth development programmes over the past 30 years.

Club president Clarence Yong said this during a courtesy call on Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Datuk James Chan here yesterday. The club invited Chan to attend the run’s flagging-off ceremony.

“Our motto is ‘Doing Good In The World’. This run has three categories – 2km, 5km and 8km – catering to a wide range of leisure and dedicated runners,” he said.

He expected about 3,000 participants.

Yong said the organiser had invited Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Datuk Nancy Shukri to be guest-of-honour at the flag-off of the run commencing at 6.30am on Feb 26 at CityOne Megamall, Jalan Song here.

This year, RCKC has lined up with projects like cataract remedy or operation for low income groups in rural areas of Sarawak in association with the Ministry of Health’s Ophthalmology Department.

Other projects include providing school kits to students from urban poor families and rural communities, solar lighting system for rural longhouse and communities in Kanowit and Bintulu areas.

According to Yong, RCKC had supplied filtered portable water to five longhouses with over 600 residents in Melikin, Serian at a cost of over RM22,000.

The club carried out 400 cataract operations costing RM180,000.

Other projects are renovation to community halls in three kampungs in Simunjan area costing RM135,000, comprehensive solar power supply to two longhouses with over 20 doors in Lubok Antu and Engkilili area costing RM120,000, and numerous youth camps and international youth exchange programmes.
