PAPAR: A 16-year-old youth was detained by police after he had robbed four students of their cash and handphones near Kampung Suangon in Kinarut here on Wednesday.

The incident happened around 11.30am when the 16-year-old youth, together with a friend, attacked and robbed the four students from SMK Kinarut of their RM60 cash and two handphones, with a baton.

District police chief DSP George Abdul Rakman said the four victims were walking to their home at Kampung Seri Menanti, Kinarut after school when two men on a motorcycle stopped beside them.

“They (the suspects) then asked the victims to hand over their money and handphones.

“The students initially refused to hand them their belongings, prompting the suspects to attack the victims with a baton, injuring all them,” he said yesterday.

The suspects then fled the scene on the motorcycle and a police report was lodged by the victims the same day.

Following the police report, the police immediately carried out a manhunt for the suspects and in less than five hours, one of the suspects was arrested near SKIM Penempatan in Kinarut around 3.40pm the same day.

“A manhunt for the second suspect has been launched and police believe the former has not gone far,” said George.

The case is being investigated under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code for gang-robbery.
