Lion Dance Fest at Likas Sports Complex today

KOTA KINABALU: The United Sabah Chinese Communities Association of Kota Kinabalu (USCCAKK) has invited Kun Seng Keng Dragon and Lion Dance Association to be one of the special performing troupes at the Chinese New Year Dragon, Unicorn and Lion Dance Festival 2017 held today (January 14) at Likas Sport Complex.

Since its inception 28 years ago, Kun Seng Keng has succeeded in capturing 65 world titles and 76 national titles. With these achievements, Malaysia is now recognized as the ‘Kingdom of Lion Dance’.

United Sabah Chinese Communities Association of Kota Kinabalu (USCCAKK) president Datuk Susan Wong hosted a dinner for the Kun Seng Keng Dragon and Lion Dance Association upon their arrival from Muar, Johor on Thursday night.

Also present were Kun Seng Keng Dragon and Lion Dance Association founder Tan Chong Hing and USCCAKK secretary general Datuk Wong Yit Ming.

Wong reiterated the importance of preserving traditional culture, such as the lion dance which was originated from China but has taken root in Malaysia.

She said having a world champion lion dance troupe from Peninsular Malaysia to perform at the Chinese New Year Dragon, Unicorn and Lion Dance Festival today would allow participants to exchange views on the art of lion dance.

Admission to the lion dance festival is free. the Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Haji Aman will officiate at the opening ceremony at 2.30pm.

Performance will start at 1pm whereby 30 selected troupes out of more than 100 dragon, unicorn and lion dance troupes will be performing at the event.
