KUCHING: The swearing-in of Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg as the new Chief Minister yesterday was not against local Malay tradition and for the urgent need of the State, stressed social activist and director of the

Islamic Education Services Bureau Datu Dr Adi Badiozaman Tuah.

“It was a good balance that after the former chief minister passed away, it’s only logical and fair that we recognised his contributions. But at the same time we have to acknowledge that the state executive too must continue to function and Sarawak has to move on,” Adi told The Borneo Post after the swearing-in ceremony at the Astana.

Adi, who is married to the Minister of Welfare, Women and Community Wellbeing Datuk Fatimah Abdullah, added that the turn of event taking place in the last three days has been very hard for all Sarawakians since the sudden demise of former Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem on Wednesday.

Adi, who was the State’s former director of Education opined that the smooth transition of power in PBB has been handed down from former Chief Minister Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud, to the late Adenan on February 2014.

“And I believe this is what the former chief minister wanted, as was the case when he appointed the late Adenan as the CM. This is very important for us to put in place.

“And the choice of Abang Jo is the right decision and it has followed the tradition in the party. So the swearing-in ceremony today (yesterday) was a good mix between the respect of tradition and respect for urgent political needs for the future of the State,” added Adi.
