432 cross-country runners head to Tg Batu beach

BINTULU: The 2017 Sarawak Schools Sports Council (MSSS) Cross-country Championship will be held in Bintulu on Feb 4.

The first sports event of the year in Sarawak Education Department’s (JPNS) calendar will be organised in collaboration with Resident’s Office and Bintulu Development Authority.

Apo Latit from the Sports Unit of JPNS said 432 runners from 12 divisions will join 132 officials for the event which will take place at Tg Batu beach.

“A total of 36 best athletes will be chosen to represent Sarawak at the national level event in Selangor on March 10,” he revealed at the organising committee meeting at Bintulu Education Office (PPD) recently. The meeting was chaired by PPD Tatau officer Mohadi Mobin.

The three age categories are 12, 15, and 18 years.

Also present at the meeting were MSS Sarawak cross-country technical chairman Christopher Tingkai, PPD Bintulu deputy officer Fred Entau, PPD Tatau assistant officer Muhd Nor Abdullah and principals.

Mohadi who is the co-organising chairman said they were honoured for being chosen as this year’s host.

“The theme for this year’s event is Tanjung Batu Challenge and this is part of our effort to promote the beach to the public,” he added.

The closing and prize giving ceremony will be officiated by JPNS state director Rakayah Madon.
