Pet grooming gains popularity during Lunar New Year season

SIBU: With Chinese New Year (CNY) just around the corner, pet grooming services are seeing a boom in business with owners wanting their pets to look their best.

Pet shop owner Albert Wong said that CNY is the busiest time of the year for him.

“We’ve been receiving dogs since the year started. We groom about eight dogs per day,” he said, adding that he normally takes about two hours to groom one dog.

He works from 9am until around 7pm during the CNY season.

“Normally, at around 4pm, I stop accepting pets for grooming or else I would not be able to meet the demand of all the customers,” he said.

He prefers customers to book allocated slots for their pets to be groomed, and added that they sometimes left the styling completely up to him.

Wong opened his pet shop in 2010 but only ventured into pet grooming two years later.

“Out of interest and to diversify, noting pet grooming was gaining popularity,” he said.

He learned how to groom pets by watching tutorials on YouTube, and spent two months participating in pet grooming classes last year.
