Unimas inks MoU on ICT with Pakistan university

KOTA SAMARAHAN: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) yesterday inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Qurtuba University of Science and Information Technology, Pakistan, to mark a new relationship to strengthen, promote and develop co-operation in the field of Science and ICT.

The MoU was signed by Unimas vice chancellor Professor Dato’ Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi, while Qurtuba University of Science and IT was represented by Qurtuba Foundation board of governors chairman Dr Muhammad Azhar Khan Niazi.

The MoU signing was witnessed by the Unimas Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology dean Dr Johari Abdullah and Qurtuba University head of Department and Assistant Professor Department of Electrical Engineering Faculty of Engineering Dr Imran Ullah Khan.

Unimas vice-chancellor Professor Dato’ Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi said the MoU marks a new beginning for both Unimas and Qurtuba University, which aims to foster active collaboration in the area of students and staff exchange, research and curriculum development.

“Collaboration between Unimas and external parties has been going on for many years and this is to ensure that Unimas stays in touch with the needs of the stakeholders particularly the community with regards to our curriculum and to utilise our research expertise to solve problems in the community,” he said.

According to Mohamad Kadim, ICT plays an important role in the development of nation and economy, thus, there is a great potential for ICT products and services market globally, to put emphasis on knowledge economy.

He also revealed that the Unimas are committed to producing excellent and holistic graduates that can serve the needs of the industry, the community and the nation.

“Unimas has been actively involved in bridging the digital divide through several initiatives such as the eBario, eLamai and eBa’kelalan projects, These projects are done through our research centre, Institute of Social Innovation and Technologies Innovation (ISITI),” he said.
