KUCHING: The enforcement unit of the Sibu Forestry Department uncovered 57 felled logs of various species which were without tax and ownership tags recently.

They were found floating at Sungai Mulong near Ulu Salim, Jalan Stabau-Durin in Sibu.

The unit seized these logs after discovering that they were part of an illegal logging activity and was now looking for their owners pursuant to an investigation over the matter.

Ownership of logs without settlement of tax and royalty is a crime under Section 95 and 96 of the Forest Ordinance 2015, an offence punishable with a fine of RM25,000 to RM150,000 or a maximum jail term of five years or both, said the State Forestry Department through a press statement yesterday.

The department appealed for cooperation from members of the public to provide lead or information on any illegal logging activity in their area by reporting to State Forestry Department at hotline 1-800-88-7777.
