Rescuers help untangle the chain from the boy’s leg.

BETONG: A Primary 1 pupil was rushed to hospital here after hurting one of his toes when it got caught in the sprocket wheel and chain of his father’s motorcycle at Jalan Bandar Baharu here yesterday.

The incident happened at 12.58pm when Sylvester Medang, 7, was riding on his father’s motorcycle from school. The leg of his pants got caught in the chain of the motorcycle causing his foot to get stuck too.

Betong Fire and Rescue Station chief James Whelan Ngang said they were called by members of the public about an accident involving a pupil getting stuck to the chain of his father’s motorcycle.

A rescue party led by senior officer Tony Murni rushed to the scene.

“It took them around 20 minutes to remove the chain and bring the boy to hospital here for treatment.

“His father did not suffer any injuries,” said James.

Betong Division Civil Defence Department officer Azamshah Apearal who happened to pass

by the area also stopped to assist.
