Sibu police hand over murder suspect to Singapore

SIBU: A man arrested by the police here for suspected murder in Singapore was handed over to the police of the island republic yesterday morning.

A team of police from Singapore which came here to escort the suspect back left with the suspect on an 11am flight.

It is understood the 25-year-old committed the murder in Singapore’s Riverine by The Park on May 30, 2010.

The suspect slipped out of Singapore to Johor after the murder where he changed his name by converting to Islam.

The man flew to Sibu last Saturday from Johor.

He was identified by the Immigration officers as the one wanted by Singapore police.

The officers informed Sibu police and who arrested him on his arrival.

Facts of the Singapore murder are not available.

Sibu police chief Saiful Bahri confirmed on Monday the arrest of the man and said he would be handed over to Singapore police.

Before the man left yesterday morning, a group of friends visited him at the police station.

It is learnt he broke down during the meeting.
