KOTA KINABALU: Umno Sabah leaders have been reminded to work harder in serving the people and resolving their problems as the party is getting ready for the 14th General Election which is expected to be called this year.

“We have been given the trust by the people to serve them and we must ensure that we do just that,” Umno Sabah Liaison chief Datuk Seri Musa Aman said.

He added that the efforts to go down to the ground must be doubled in order to counter the lies and allegations hurled at the government by the opposition.

Musa pointed out that as Umno leaders, it is their responsibility to explain to the rakyat especially those at the grassroots level about the lies and allegations made by the opposition.

“We know that there are many opposition parties now in Sabah who are spreading lies but we have proof that we are sincere in what we are doing and always have the people’s interest at heart,” he told a press conference after chairing the State Umno meeting yesterday.

“All that we are doing is for the people. Take BR1M for instance, the government gives out the direct financial aid to the people because it wants to help them,” he said, adding that the BR1M had been criticized by certain quarters who had since changed their opinion about the financial aid.

When asked about Umno Sabah’s preparations for the general elections, Musa said that they were prepared as it was a routine for the party’s leaders to go down to the ground and meet the people.

Not only during election but before and after, he said and added that he had advised all Umno Sabah leaders including those in the Women, Youth and Puteri movements to continue with their routine of service to the people.

“We need to be in the know of the people’s problems and find ways to resolve them as soon as possible,” he said.

According to Musa, in view of the current rainy season, damage to the infrastructure such as roads and bridges was expected and should that happen, repairs must be carried out immediately.

He said that the state and federal governments would provide allocations to repair the damaged infrastructure so that the people were not inconvenienced.

Asked if election would be held this year, Musa replied, “We do not know as it is up to the central leadership to decide.”
