MIRI: Columbia Asia Hospital Miri CAH-Miri is to hold a fitness event on March 11 to raise at least RM60,000 for its Cleft Lip, Palate Charity Project for the needy.

Event advisor and CAH-Miri regional general manager Yeoh Kim Looi said Stretch Flexband Fitness Charity Event will be held at the musical corridor of Eastwood Valley Golf and Country Club, EVGCC from 4.30pm to 6pm.

“Our hospital and the charity project partners are calling on the caring public to join the fitness event or donate to the project for corrective surgery to cleft lip, palate.

“We started the project in 2004 (now in the 18th year) and hope it would be sustained to benefit more needy patients,” Yeoh said at a press conference held at the hospital yesterday.

They are targeting 1,000 people to take part in the fitness programme using stretch flexband.

“We are continuously looking for new ideas to raise funds. We introduce flexband which could be incorporated into one’s lifestyle, and promote a caring society.

“By paying RM60, each participant will be entitled to a flexband and t-shirt. The event is open to all, preferably those aged six years and above,” she said.

Yeoh assured that all proceeds would go to the Cleft Lip and Palate Association Malaysia (Clapam), CAH-Miri and Pantai Medical Centre for joint corrective surgery on those born with cleft lips and palates.

Registration starts today and agencies, departments or associations having 10 or more participants can request CAH-Miri staff to send the application forms and collect them.

Registration forms and details can be obtained from the hospital registration counter (24 hours) and Shared Tea (9.30am to 10pm) at Boulevard Commercial Centre.

Registration can also be made at their mobile registration booths at Bintang Megamall on Jan 21 and Feb 4 (10am to 9pm) and Gymkhana Club (GCM) on Feb 11 and 18 (4pm – 6pm).

For details and to register, call organising chairperson Jennifer Ee Siew Ling or her committee members Ho Siew Choon, Janet Aren or Goh Teck Nei at 085-437 755 or email [email protected],[email protected] or [email protected] respectively.

The date for the 18th charity cleft lip and palate corrective surgery has yet to be fixed.

Those earning total family income below RM2,000 a month with family members born with cleft lips and palates are encouraged to register.

All expenses are paid for needy patients and accompanying family members including transportation, lodging and food for one week.

Yeoh said the cleft lip and palate charity project initiated in 2004 had operated on 347 patients so far, including 21 in July last year.
