KUCHING: Brazilian Demerson Bruno Costa is ready to start a new life in Sarawak, putting behind a tragedy that shook the football world.

Back home last November, an injured Demerson did not board LaMia Flight 2933 (LMI2933) which crashed in Colombia, killing 71 of the 77 on board.

19 of his teammates perished on that ill-fated plane en route to play the first leg of the 2016 Copa Sudamericana Finals in Medellín against Colombian team Atlético Nacional.

Only three of the Chapecoense players on board survived.

Demerson left Brazil thereafter to attend trials for various teams in Asia before finally signing with Sarawak for the 2017 Malaysia Super League season.

But his stint in Sarawak is not his first in Asia as he had played for Chinese side Jiangxi Liansheng in 2015.

The central defender, who speaks a little English, is simply known as Demerson.

Yesterday, he was among the Sarawak players introduced to fans at CityOne Plaza.
