Trio arrested for snatch theft, drug abuse

TAWAU: Police detained three local jobless suspects believed involved in two snatching cases here and seized several telecommunication equipment from them in two arrests recently.

District police chief ACP Fadil Bin Hj Marsus said they detained two of the suspects aged 34 and 30 years at a hut in Kg Kurnia Jaya Batu 4 1/2 Jalan Apas here on January 18.

He said that the duo were ex-convicts where the 34-year-old suspect had been jailed for three years under Section 392 of the Penal Code while the 30-year-old suspect had been jailed twice after he tested positive for drug abuse.

“We seized two handphones in the first arrest, both believed to be stolen items. The case would be investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code in respect of a case that occurred at Taman Joo Hwa, Jalan Bunga Raya here at about 5.30pm on January 4, where a 51-year-old local man had lost an Iphone 6 costing about RM2,000. The suspects also tested positive for drug abuse and they were remained for seven days,” he added.

At about 2.30am on January 19, police also detained a 37-year-old suspect at the car park of Maju Bistro restaurant, Jalan Masjid here and seized a black Perodua Viva. The suspect tested positive for drug abuse and was remanded for investigation under Section 379 of the Penal Code. The suspect is also an ex-convict for drug abuse in Selangor previously.

According Fadil, the arrest was made in connection with a case in front of Milimewa Superstore, Fajar here at about 1.10am on September 23, 2016 where the suspect had snatched a handphone and RM50 cash from a 35-year-old man.
