PETALING JAYA: The police have pledged to closely monitor convicted Malaysian serial rapist Selva Kumar Subbiah who will be deported after serving sentence in Canada.

“Although there is no legal provision for monitoring the offender, we  have   our   own  ways of  doing it,” Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar told reporters yesterday.

In 1992, Subbiah was sentenced to 24 years in prison when he was found guilty of, among others, 19 counts of sexual assaults.

His prison term expires at the end of this month.

Foreign media reports said according to Canadian prison authorities, there was a high probability that Subbiah, now aged 56, might repeat the offence (sexual assaults) or even resort to killing. — Bernama
