SIBU: A total of 17 records were rewritten at the Sibu Invitational Age-Group Swimming Championship held at the Bukit Lima Swimming Pool last weekend.

Timothy Wong Siang Qi, competing in the Boy’s E category, stole the limelight when he alone contributed six of the records.

Among his records were the 100m freestyle when he clocked a new time of 1:30.31sec, 200m Individual Medley (3:39.21) and 100m backstroke (1:50.17).

He also captured the best swimmer award in his Under-8 age group.

Fellow category E swimmer Brian Lu also impressed with four new records.

These included the 50m breaststroke (50.52sec), 100m butterfly (1:48.31) and 50m butterfly (42.6sec).

Coach Samuel Wong was elated with the duo, saying swimmers in the U-8 category rarely produced so many records in the previous years.

“This is a good sign and it shows that our development plan is taking root,” he said.

Another outstanding performer was Kilian Ung Shihuang of SMK Chung Hua who emerged as best swimmer in Boy’s A with two records.

Other  best swimmer award recipients were Lau Teck Lung of SMK Sacred Heart School (Boy’s B), Toh Bock Zian (Boy’s C) and Wong En Ee (Boy’s D).

The best swimmer titles for the girls went to Nee Qiao Yuan (A), Angel Lau Xin Yee (B) with one record and eight golds, Adeline Lau (C), Ivy Ning Chai Yun (D) while Moh Jung Ning and Gwen Wong Shun Ting shared the honours in the E age-group.

Sibu Municipal Council chairman Datuk Tiong Thai King officiated at the prize presentation.
