Lovebirds charged with possession of firearms, drugs

BUTTERWORTH: A man and his lover were charged in the Sessions Court here today with possession of firearms, offensive weapons and drugs.

However, no plea was recorded from Teoh Boon Seng, 34, and the woman, Yeoh Seok Tiang, 42, as they did not understand the charges, which were read out to them in Malay before Judge Norhayati Mohamad Yunus.

On the first count, the couple was charged with possession of a scheduled weapon in the form of a sickle in a car at a house in Jalan Bangau 1, Taman Minamah, Nibong Tebal, at 1 pm last Jan 12.

The charge, under 7(1)(A) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958, provides an imprisonment for up to 10 years, if found guilty.

On the second count, they were charged under Section 8 of the Explosives Act 1957 with unauthorised possession of explosive items in the form of four bomb pipes at the same place, time and date.

The law provides an imprisonment for up to seven years, or fine of up to RM10,000, or both, if found guilty.

On the third count, they were charged with unlawful possession of eight rounds of live ammunition at the same place, time and date.

The charge, under Section 8(A) of the Arms Act 1960, provides an imprisonment for up to seven years, or fine of up to RM10,000, or both, if found guilty.

The couple was also charged with possession of 12.65 grammes of heroin at a house in Taman Minamah, Nibong Tebal, at 11 am last Jan 12.

They face life imprisonment, or for a term of not less than five years, and whipping of not less than 10 times, if found guilty of the drug offence, made under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act.

The court set Feb 2 for mention.
