KAPIT: The Kapit Che Quan Khor Moral Uplifting Society can only distribute food aid to a limited number of recipients twice a year due to a lack of funding.

Chairman Yii Kau Chai said each year the society presents the aid to the needy during Chinese New Year and Gawai Dayak.

“Due to our limited resources, we can’t afford to hand out more, although out there, there are so many poor people.

“We raise our money from fundraising sales and funding from elected representatives,” he explained during the presentation of food aid for Chinese New Year on Tuesday.

“What we’re doing is just playing our role to promote a caring society, some food in the form of rice, flour, sugar, Milo, coffee, cooking oil, etc.

“Each recipient receives items worth some RM100.”

Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit Unyat presented the aid to the recipients.

Jamit praised the society for helping the needy and called on other associations to follow the society’s example.
