KUCHING: A rather low-key celebration was observed by SUPP at their annual Chinese New Year open house which was held at their headquarters on Saturday.

SUPP president Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian said the celebration this year was made in a low-key manner as a mark of respect for the recent demise of former chief minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone despite the manner that we organised this open house, the turnout is very encouraging,” the Minister of Local Government told The Borneo Post.

He added that around 2,000 people from all walks of life and various communities came to the open house despite the early morning shower.

Meanwhile, the open house on Saturday saw the presence of Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg and his wife Datin Amar Dato Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang who arrived at the Sa’ati hall around 10.20am.

Arriving at 11am for the open house were the Yang diPertua Negeri Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Raghad Kurdi Taib, who were escorted by Dr Sim to the already packed hall.

Among others present were deputy chief ministers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah and Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Masing, Minister of Resource Planning and Environment Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, Minister of Women, Family and Community Development Datuk Seri Rohani Karim, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Nancy Shukri as well as other state ministers and assistant ministers.

The VIPs spent around one hour at the hall greeting one another before proceeding for a group photo prior to their departures.
