SIBU: A religious teacher from a secondary school in Mukah died after the multipurpose vehicle (MPV) she was travelling in with six others was involved in an accident near Kampung Senau roundabout in Oya, Mukah around 6.20pm on Tuesday.

Hamisiah Razak, 41, died at Mukah Hospital two hours after the accident.

The vehicle driven by her husband Jailani Awang, 43, somehow skidded off the road, overturned and landed in a ditch.

Dalat police chief DSP Awang Arfian Awang Bujang said the MPV was moving towards Oya from Igan when the incident happened.

“The ditch was filled with water during the time of the incident. The victim was in the front seat. All victims were later taken to Mukah Hospital,” he said.

Mukah Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) station chief Bonny Martin Saging said the others in the vehicle were the couple’s children – Ahmad Syarthib, 11; Ahmad Al-Alusi, 10; Ahmad Zarkhisyi, 8; Atharid Dainur, 6; and Ahmad Akashah, 1.

He said Ahmad Akashah was in a critical condition on Tuesday but as of yesterday his condition had stabilised.

His siblings only suffered minor injuries.

In an unrelated case, three persons were seriously injured after a saloon car collided with a sports utility vehicle (SUV) on the overtaking lane at KM54 Sebintek along the Sibu-Selangau Road around 6.30am yesterday.

Those injured were the driver of the saloon car and his two passengers.

The driver of the SUV escaped unhurt.

The victims were taken to hospital in ambulances from Sibu Hospital and Bomba Sungai Merah’s Emergency Medical Rescue Service (EMRS).
