KUCHING: A special manifesto for the Tanjong Datu by-election will be unveiled after the Nomination Day on Feb 4, says PBB supreme council member Dato Sri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.

Wan Junaidi, who has been appointed as director of operations for the by-election, said his immediate task is to activate all the 37 PBB branches in Tanjong Datu.

“We want to see Lundu become a major tourism destination in Sarawak. So we will unveil our manifesto which will contain our blueprint for Lundu. This includes the waterfront projects for both Lundu and Sematan and beautification projects for both towns to attract tourists to Tanjong Datu,” Wan Junaidi told a press conference at PBB headquarters here yesterday.

On the candidacy, Wan Junaidi revealed that PBB Tanjong Datu had submitted three names as potential candidates to the party headquarters.

“But as I have always said, we abide by the decision of the party’s top leadership. And because of that we are confident that we will be able to defend the Tanjong Datu seat as our candidate Datuk Amar Jamilah Anu is an established figure and well-known by all the people in the constituency,” he said.

Wan Junaidi, the MP for Santubong which includes Tanjong Datu, added that the party would open service centres in all the 15 polling centres in the constituency.

“At the same time we will also be opening our operations centre in Lundu to ensure that we have a smooth campaign during the whole duration of the by-election,” he said.

Meanwhile, PBB Wanita chief Tan Sri Empiang Jabu reiterated that the wing will assist the BN machinery to campaign for Jamilah in her absence.

“We are happy for her. I have known Datuk Amar Jamilah for about three decades. All I can say about her is that she is very diligent, hardworking and approachable,” she said.

Empiang believes being close to the people on the ground, Jamilah has a high chance of winning the seat which her husband successfully defended in the last state election.

“She is a very capable person not only as a wife and mother but also as chairman of Sabati and other NGOs. I am confident that she will be able to assist the government in developing the area as being planned by her late husband,” added Empiang.
