SIBU: The board of management of SK Bandaran No. 2 will work hard to improve the school’s facilities to create a better learning environment for its pupils, board chairman Temenggong Dato Vincent Lau said.

He said the board is very committed to doing whatever they can to improve the school’s facilities.

“We will continue to work hard to take this school to greater heights. In fact, we are very concerned with the development of the school and we are indeed privileged and honoured to be able to serve this school,” he said at the school’s Chinese New Year celebration recently.

Lau also said that the school would be given an allocation for its re-development project under the 11th Malaysia Plan.

“But unfortunately, the school has yet to receive the funds for the project. Nevertheless, the board will try its best to provide assistance to have the necessary facilities,” he emphasised.

Lau hoped that all members would work together to enable the pupils to have a better learning environment. “These children are our future leaders and we must ensure that they get good education,” he said.

He pointed out that Malaysia is a very unique country because its citizens are allowed to practise their own culture and religion. He said such harmonious living must be continued through mutual understanding.

“That is why I always believe events such as CNY celebrations are important as students especially the non-Chinese can learn about our culture and through such understanding, we can be more tolerant and patient towards one another,” he elaborated.

He hoped that the school could do the same for Hari Raya and Gawai Dayak celebrations.

Meanwhile, headmaster Tang Siong Khui urged the pupils and teachers to continue to work hard to take the school to greater heights.

“With the new year, we need to have new hope and new determination to work hard and continue to produce good results for the school,” he said, adding that it would create public confidence in the school.

Among others attending the event were United Chinese Association (UCA) Sibu president Kong Hian Khim, SM Wong Nai Siong principal Lu Yew Hiuung and senior assistant Roslindawati Mohd Nadzir.
