LONG LAMA:  A strong spiritual development is essential in producing well-balanced human capital for the development and progress of the country.

In this context, Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau urges especially the younger generation to practise their faith and  treasure and cherish the religious freedom in the country.

“Although Islam is the official religion of the country, people are free to practise their respective religion, belief and faith. There is no restriction on spiritual or religious activities and programmes that instil and nurture good and noble values in an individual,” he said.

Officiating at a concrete link road at the Borneo Evangelical Mission (BEM) Theological School (STP) in Beto, Long Lama last Saturday afternoon, Dennis noted that the assembly  encourages the younger generation to learn and acquire religious knowledge apart from academic.

Dennis said the government supports and encourages spiritual development as reflected by the assistance in various forms to religious bodies.

“Without the grant from the government it would be impossible for us to build this concrete link road. This also goes to show that the government is giving equal attention to the need of other religions apart from Islam.”

Announcing a grant of RM50,000 under his minor rural project fund for the school, Dennis promised to seek some allocation from the government and private sector to repair and upgrade the old and rundown buildings and facilities for the comfort of both students and teachers.

The school serves as a Bible study and pastoral training centre to meet the need for pastors serving BEM churches in Baram.
