MIRI: The People’s Republic of China (PRC) has full confidence in the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg, said its Consul-General in Kuching, Fu Jijun.
He also believed that the Chinese community in Sarawak will be able to play a greater role in various collaborations between China and Sarawak in the aspects of politics, social development, economy and racial harmony.
“Here I would like to thank the Sarawak government, particularly the Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud, the late chief minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem and the new Chief Minister Abang Johari for playing great role in promoting cooperation for mutual benefits between Sarawak and PRC,” he stated in his address at the Chinese New Year (CNY) gathering at Imperial Hotel here on Sunday organised by Miri Division Federation of Chinese Associations Sarawak.
Fu recalled that the official visit by a delegation of Sarawak government last year to various places in PRC had produced good results, with a number of agreements and memorandums of understanding (MoU) signed to strengthen collaboration in port management, tourism, promotion, iron and steel and bio-carbon production, infrastructure construction and business.
In addition, he said another MoU on tourism cooperation was signed between Ministry of Tourism Sarawak and four Chinese companies soon after Abang Johari was sworn in as the sixth chief minister this year.
“With Abang Johari as new chief minister for Sarawak, I’m confident that he will further push the cooperation and friendly relationship between Sarawak and China to greater progress.”
He further said with the support from both governments, many entrepreneurs from both sides were keen to seek investment opportunities and business partners in various sectors such as trade, production of rubber, solar panel and machinery, iron and steel, real estate, infrastructure, tourism and other industries.
He thanked the Chinese community in the state for collaboration between Sarawak and China in various fields.
