KUCHING: A man received stitches to the back of his head after he was slashed by an intoxicated person upon arriving home at Tabuan Hilir early yesterday.

The 25-year-old victim, who is employed as a cleaner, said the incident took place just after midnight when he arrived back from work and was about to step foot into his house.

He said he was caught completely off-guard when a man, who happens to live in the same housing area, suddenly rushed up to him from behind and slashed the back of his head with a sharp weapon before disappearing into the darkness.

Fearing that he would be attacked further, the victim quickly locked himself in the house and, with the help of his father, sought treatment at the Sarawak General Hospital where he received seven stitches to close his wound.

The motive of the unprovoked attack was unclear, although the cleaner mentioned that the perpetrator appeared to be intoxicated at the time.

A police report of the incident has been lodged.

In an unrelated matter, a motorcyclist suffered a head wound after crashing into the rear of a moving lorry at Jalan Stapok Utara here yesterday.

The 19-year-old from Desa Wira in Batu Kawah was riding alone when the incident happened around 12.30pm.

Passing motorists stopped to help the fallen motorcyclist and called the Civil Defence Force, which despatched an ambulance to the scene to transport the victim to the Sarawak General Hospital where he was admitted for treatment.
