SARIKEI: The Emergency and Trauma Unit of Sarikei Hospital welcomed 13 firemen from Betong, Saratok and here who underwent a ten-day practical attachment to enhance their first aid knowledge recently.

During the practical stint, the participants learned to apply proper first aid to injured victims while accompanying paramedics responding to road accidents, fires and drowning cases.

According to senior fire officer Henry Jugah, the firemen assisted paramedics in emergency cases apart from attending to their normal rescue work.

“Throughout the ten-day attachment, they responded to emergency calls together with paramedics who rushed to the scene in the ambulance and via their own official transports,” he said.

On behalf of the participants, Henry thanked senior medical officer Francis Ugi and assistant medical officer Zaidel Troki who acted as their supervisors throughout the practical attachment.
