KAPIT: A large crowd comprising civil servants, students, members of local clubs and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) are expected to take part in the ‘My Beautiful Malaysia Day 2.0’ programme here this Feb 26.

The programme, to be held simultaneously nationwide, will include activities such as ‘gotong-royong’ (work party) to clear surrounding areas, cleaning and flushing of drains, tree planting, health awareness programme and mass aerobic session.

Deputy Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi, who is also Kapit MP, is expected to officiate at the opening ceremony of the programme at the town square here.

Kapit Resident Joseph Belayong Punan chaired a divisional-level organising committee for the programme at his office yesterday.

He disclosed that the ‘My Beautiful Malaysia Day 2.0’

would involve all states nationwide, with a targeted participation of some six million people.

“We have been directed to organise the ‘My Beautiful Malaysia Day 2.0’ at the respective divisions this Feb 26 and for

Kapit, the committee has

appointed Kapit District Council (KDC) as the secretariat for the programme here, which will involve all the government agencies, NGOs, schools and the local community,” said Belayong.

He also said Song and Belaga districts would also run their respective ‘My Beautiful Malaysia Day 2.0’ programmes on the same day.

“I want the civil servants to play a major role in the programme. Try to involve as many people as possible and bring along your families as well to take part in the programme,” he said.

The KDC later held a meeting with various local clubs and NGOs to prepare for the event. The meeting was chaired by the council’s secretary Jabang Juntan.

“On our part as the secretariat, we need to pull the crowd to achieve the required number of participants; hence, we need the support of the NGOs and local clubs.

“Of course, the programme also involve the government agencies. For NGOs and local clubs, your role is to tell and invite your members to take part in the programme at Kapit Town Square this Feb 26. Bring along your family members as well,” said Jabang.

He also called on the NGOs and local clubs to use their respective T-shirts with their own logo to identify their presence and attendance.

As a crowd puller, the committee had also decided to run a lucky draw for the participants during the event.
