12 fighting roosters seized

KUNAK: Twelve live roosters believed used in cock-fighting activity were seized by the police in Ops Dadu at Kampung Cina, Lorong 1, Kunak, on Tuesday.

District police chief Superintendent Nasaruddin M Nasir said following a public tip-off, a police team raided an unnumbered house at Kampung Cina.

“During the raid, the house was empty and further inspection of the house found several equipment used for cock-fighting and gambling.

“The police team also found the cock-fighting ring which was used during the activity,” he said, adding that the seizures were taken to the Kunak police headquarters for further action.

Nasaruddin said Kunak police had conducted various operations to combat gambling and criminal activities here.

He said the police also received good cooperation from the public, especially in channeling information about crime activities in their areas.

Nasaruddin also disclosed that police had detained an illegal immigrant and seized a fish bomb device during an integrated operation at Kampung Pangi Hujung, near here, yesterday.

He said 137 individuals were inspected and one of them was arrested for not having any valid document.

“A total of 57 men, 32 women and 48 children were inspected during the operation being carried out as one of crime prevention efforts and to clean the district of illegal immigrants.

“Following the operation, the team also found three detonators, fuse and two bottles of ammonia believed to be fishing bomb device in the bushes near the village,” said Nasaruddin.

He said the two-hour operation was joined by 44 police officers and personnel, eight Rela personnel and five Civil Defence Force personnel.

The suspect and the seizures were taken to the Kunak police Headquarters for further investigation.

Nasaruddin thanked the villagers for their cooperation that led to the arrest and hoped it would continue in the future.
