Guan Eng apologises for trusting Sim and gang

GEORGE TOWN: DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng yesterday apologised to the party and people for his mistake in choosing to trust in the loyalty of Kota Melaka MP Sim Tong Him and his faction.

He said he had been cheated by Sim’s pledge that he ‘lives as a DAP member  and will die as a DAP member’, when such trust was clearly misplaced.

“I was wrong to believe that Sim would remain steadfast and loyal to DAP despite deep differences with the CEC (Central Executive Committee) leaders.

“This was the reason why the gang of four were given seats to contest in the 2013 general election,” he said in a statement, here.

Besides Sim, the others who quit the party are assemblymen Lim Jak Wong (Bachang), Goh Leong San (Duyong) and Chin Choon Seong (Kesidang).

Lim, who is also Penang Chief Minister, said if Sim was still loyal to DAP, he should remain in the party to campaign and convince DAP members to remove the party leaders he did not like.

“Sim defies logic by insisting that he is still loyal to DAP after betraying the party. Or has Sim lost confidence in getting support from DAP members after his faction’s defeat in the DAP Melaka state elections in 2015?” he said.

Thus, he reminded party leaders and members not to underestimate the threat posed by the outrageous and ridiculous claims made by Sim and his faction leaders that they are still loyal to the party. — Bernama
