208 households receive RM1,000 flood aid each

MARUDI: Households in Mulu constituency numbering 208 received cash assistance under Tabung Bencana Agromakanan, courtesy of Usahawan Tani Sarawak, from their assemblyman  Dato Gerawat Gala at the Baram Civic Centre here yesterday, The recipients comprise residents of Long Terawan, Linei Lajang and Linei Rok, Batu Belah, Long Ukok, Kuala Tutoh, Tanjor Opar and other villages along Tutoh and Baram rivers who were hit by the flood between late 2014 and early 2015.

They received a cheque of RM1,000 each.

Gerawat, who is also deputy Speaker, told the recipients that their losses might have run into thousands of ringgit but the RM1,000 assistance was the least the government could do for them.

He said those who received the assistance were those whose names were listed in the flood relief committee.

Marudi District Officer Mackos Sibong also spoke at the function, which was also attended by Marudi District Council chairman Edward Mendai, Miri Division agriculture officer Albania Linus and Marudi Agriculture officer Peter Gobe.
