MIRI: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) leaders in northern Sarawak are confident Barisan Nasional (BN) Tanjong Datu by-election candidate Datin Patinggi Datuk Amar Jamilah Anu will retain the seat with a bigger majority tomorrow.

PBB Telang Usan chairman Dennis Ngau said he is sure Jamilah, the widow of former Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem, will achieve this based on the sentiments of constituents on the ground.

He said when campaigning for Jamilah in Lundu, he could see the people were very happy with the development brought by Adenan to the area.

“There are many developments surrounding Tanjong Datu and in Lundu and the people there appreciate it. And this is the basis that I see that Datuk Jamilah will win and the people will give a stronger and bigger majority,” he said when contacted in Kuching yesterday.

He pointed out that the opposition parties have also done little campaigning in the area.

PBB Pujut chairman Abu Bakar Amit said grassroots members here are also giving their support to Jamilah.

“The people in Tanjong Datu know her and like her through her regular visits with her husband to meet the people there,” he said.

According to him, a bigger majority for Jamilah is likely because Adenan did so much for the area.

However, he reminded PBB not to be over-confident.

PBB Marudi chairman Kalang Jok said Tanjong Datu is a PBB stronghold and the people would not be easily influenced by the opposition’s tactics.

“BN can bring development and continue to do so while the opposition parties know how to talk only without any concrete planning or development for the people,” he said.
